The stage...

...for the other show.

I feel weak.

Both of my shows open this weekend. I don't feel ready for either. Luckily I only focus on this show this weekend, and then attempt to be ready for the other show for the next weekend(s). Remind me not to do this to myself again.

Lush Lounge

...and my friend Jen!

I was trying to take a picture of the blind leading the blind

Because I just saw a blind man leading another blind man... But I missed them.

When I looked over hoping to catch them again, I saw this sign.

Safe!

The dive

I got Josh a skydiving certificate for Christmas last year. He had a year to use it, and today is the day... Kind of weird to throw your boyfriend out of a plane as a gift, but he mentioned in passing that he wanted to do it sometime last year -- so...?

Before you jump, they show you this video from the 80s where this guy with the most ridiculous beard talks about how there's a pretty decent chance you're going to die. He sits in a grey suit with his hands on a desk and his beard flowing from his chin to the top of the table, and nothing on him moves except for his lips. It's the creepiest thing they could possibly show you before you might die...

There's a shooting range right next to the landing pad for the skydivers... So, I stand in the sun to the sound of gunfire watching the sky...

Something to strive for

I've been thinking a lot about authenticity lately...what it truly requires of a person.

Waiting for rehearsal

I'm obsessed with David Foster Wallace. I can't stop reading the articles, tributes, news reports...listening to past interviews mixed into sound bites (is that the right term?) on NPR... and I can't help but find his dizzying intellect somewhat contagious.

He did a reading in a small Church in the Haight a couple of years ago. I found out about it the day of the reading and knew that I had to go. I was sort of afraid to see him in person because he was my favorite author and I didn't want him to be arrogant and awful and destroy the image I had of him as this brilliant, somewhat tortured, yet very likable person (don't you always want your heroes to be likable?), but as it turned out he was amazing...and I was so proud to be a fan of him and his work.

Oakland is always full of surprises

Yup, still at the laundry mat.

Crazy people at the mat

Maybe it's the full moon...but it appears to be crazy-people-at-the-laundry-mat night. The guy in the red hat says he has three kids. I believe the second one is named Nipple. I can't understand what he's saying for the other two, but "Nipple" is coming through loud and clear.

Pre-coffee on a Sunday morning...

On our way to breakfast, I revisited an idea I had come up with about a year ago to create a people zoo. A place where people could occupy space for about a month and others could pay to come watch them.

Josh thinks that people would not pay to go somewhere to look at other people....unless the people were really doing something interesting. In this case, the people would have to have something they are trying to accomplish while occupying the space. Maybe a band trying to write a new album, or someone trying to break a record by hanging from the rafters... ? Just something interesting and somewhat active.

:)

Yeah??

Work meetings

Patrick and I have a tradition of taking photos of each other during our weekly meetings and then sending them to each other and laughing. He's moving to the New York office, so I now have to take pictures of myself...
